TechEd Lab: Adaptive & Project-Based Methodologies for IT Teachers

Rethinking IT Education: From Lectures to Real-World Learning

In an era where the digital world evolves faster than ever, traditional teaching methods are struggling to keep up. That’s why we launched TechEd Lab, a 3-day Erasmus+ job shadowing experience designed for IT teachers ready to level up their practice through adaptive and project-based learning (PBL).

Hosted at ICDET in Sofia, Bulgaria, the program brought together educators from across Europe to explore how modern methodologies can empower students to not only understand technology, but to use it creatively and independently.

What Is TechEd Lab All About?

TechEd Lab was more than just observation—it was an active lab for transformation. Participants dived into real IT classrooms, observed project-based learning in action, and explored tools that support personalised and adaptive learning environments.

Key focus areas included:

  • Designing real-world IT projects with student ownership

  • Integrating adaptive learning platforms to meet diverse needs

  • Rethinking the teacher's role as a guide and facilitator

  • Co-creating learning activities that combine theory and application

From Watching to Doing

Each day mixed live classroom observation, hands-on workshops, and peer collaboration. Participants reflected daily in a digital workbook, where they captured insights, questions, and classroom strategies. These contributions are now being compiled into a Best Practices Guide for wider dissemination.

What Teachers Said

“Seeing how adaptive tools like Code.org and Moodle were used to personalize the pace for each student really shifted my mindset.”
— Participant, Spain

“The balance between structure and freedom in project-based learning is what I’m taking back to my own IT classroom.”
— Participant, Bulgaria

What’s Next?

The impact of TechEd Lab won’t end here. The participant workbook entries and co-designed lesson ideas will feed into a collaborative toolkit for IT educators, soon to be released under open license. Stay tuned!
